April 5, 2006
The girls drove up Wednesday night and stayed at my house to get a jump on rehearsals for the next day. Our main focus for Thursday was, to go through our contest songs once an hour and try and relax. We checked into hotel in the afternoon and started singing. We are so fortunate to have our Pride of Kentucky family behind us... we felt their overwhelming amount of love and support throughout the contest; it was a feeling you can hardly describe. Remarkable doesn't even come close!!

Thursday night we were visited by WOW, Primary Colors, Cosmopoltian, Chatterbox, Kris Hawkins, and Beverly Craig. Thank you all for coming and being such a great audiance. We had a blast singing for you.

Friday Morning 7:00AM
We woke early to start getting ready for contest. Patty and Michelle are the early birds of the quartet and the coffee drinkers!! We had a meeting at the convention center to outline the day’s events, and then we headed back to our room to continue to dress/eat lunch and relax.
12:25 PM-Lobby
We are so lucky to get a hostess with the mostess, Beverly Craig, to walk us through our pattern. Beverly is April's Mother (for those that didn't know). We were ready early so we went down to the lobby and were lucky enough to see one of our coaches, Jay Hawkins. It was great seeing him and hearing his encouragement. It really gave us an extra boost!
12:35 PM-Photo
We meet with Jon Peterson to take our quartet pictures. We worked out a pose the week prior so we were in and out like a flash (no pun intended).
12:45 PM-Warm-up Room
Continuing with our pattern, we walked a couple doors down to the warm-up room. Several of our chorus members were waiting for us and asked if they could come into the warm-up room with us and a couple of others raced downstairs to get a seat. We sang through our songs: "Is This Just Another Song About Love?" and "L-O-V-E" and got some water. (I have to say that this reminded me of like when you are running a marathon and you have supporters cheering you from the sidelines. This is how I felt due to fact we saw different people throughout this process giving us a thumbs up).
12:55 PM-Back Stage
This is a huge room on the backside of the convention hall with accordion walls (I think) so there was no talking allowed. The mic-test quartet was on to sing and the audio techs were making adjustments.
1:05 PM-Behind the Curtain
If you have ever been at that spot you will understand this comment when I say we could feel the audience's energy. We heard their chanting and clapping and when we were announced, the crowd went WILD. We were told that generally there isn't a big crowd that early, but I have to say the crowd sounded larger than life. We took command of the stage and didn't look back. When we sang our final note we received a standing ovation that we will keep close to our hearts. Competing for the first time, being first to perform and receiving this amount of support was overwhelming. When we exited the stage, there were tears and an enormous group huge.
I am happy to report that we won the Ruth Doll Novice Award. It was such an honor. I have attached the picture below.
